How do I submit?
We are an environmentally friendly festival. We accept only digital entries through the FilmFreeway submission platform. This platform is the industry standard, trusted by over 10,000 film festivals around the world.
Ok, yes, but HOW do I submit?
Your film will need a FilmFreeway profile. (More info starting your FilmFreeway profile here). Once you’ve uploaded your film file to FilmFreeway and filled out the production information, head over to https://filmfreeway.com/WacoIndie and click the green Submit Now button on the right side of the page. Do not send us DVD’s, Blu-rays, press kits, emails with YouTube links, dirty laundry or unruly children.

Submission fees and deadlines may be found on our festival page on FilmFreeway. We are proud to announce that Waco Indie has been ranked as one of the Top 100 Best Reviewed Film Festivals in the World. Read our reviews and submit with confidence… you’ll enjoy our festival.
This year we are planning some great workshops, panel discussions, Q&A’s and plenty of time to network and party with fellow filmmakers. More details to be revealed as the event approaches. Learn more about us here.
A little about us
Our venues
We like to keep things local and highlight the beauty of downtown Waco. We utilize locally owned venues and locations, so please note that your film may be screened in an art gallery, performance space, or 110-year-old vaudeville theater. Places with lots of character, but please do not expect IMAX screens or cineplex-level sound.
What we like (and helpful tips)
Tell us a great story! We want relatable characters in compelling situations where we can see dynamic change and growth. We can appreciate experimental work, and sometimes it fits in the festival, but it’s not something we program often.
We like stories that unite, not divide. There’s already a lot of mudslinging in Washington and on social media. Waco Indie wants to bring people to together, celebrate great storytelling, and create a positive environment for attendees. Films that shine a light on injustice are important and will be considered. But works that are inflammatory are very rarely selected.
Short credits! Every second matters at a festival. Short films, please keep your credits around 1 minute long. You can create a friends-and-family cut of your film with longer credits for your friends and family screenings.
Post credits sequences. Speaking of credits, we suggest that if you have a post-credits sequence in your film, state that on your FilmFreeway page. We judge your film on the film, not who or what is in your credits - so we stop watching when your credits roll. Your film isn’t a Marvel film, so we’re not expecting a Captain America appearance. If you want us to notice a post-credits sequence, please make us aware.
Keep your FilmFreeway page honest and updated. Please do not misrepresent your run-time or tell us your horror film is family friendly. When choosing between similar films we like to consider all the information. It’s a good idea to update your screenings/awards (if your World Premiere is still available, say so), link your social media and include screengrabs as well as bts photos in your still photos section.
Premiere status is important… for other festivals. Many of the upper tier film festivals (such as Austin, Chicago, or Toronto) require a premiere so it makes sense to submit to us AFTER those festivals have passed. There are plenty of outstanding regional film festivals like ours that will accept films that are not World Premieres.
